On Thursday, July 17th 2008, DJ/Producer A-Trak visited the NIKEiD Studio in NYC to design a pair of custom Nike Dunks.

A-trak is recognized around the globe for his skills as a turntablist. And while he clearly has an eye for what's hot, we don't expect to find him moonlighting as a designer any time soon—this is one DJ who is happy to stick to his day job. Whenever aesthetic questions of the visual variety present themselves, A-Trak defers to his right-hand man Dust La Rock, art director of Fool’s Gold records (the imprint A-Trak co-founded). When A-Trak got the invite to visit the NIKEiD Studio he immediately enlisted Dust La Rock and ultra-talented designer Kesh to help him design the Running Man Dunk.

A-trak's visit to the iD Studio in honor of the release of his debut album Running Man: Nike+ Original Run. The album is a 43-minute original composition, a mix of electro and hip-hop, designed with the runner in mind. In addition to being ideal for a workout, its synth-heavy loops and deep bass have also gained momentum in clubland. The mix features guest vocals by Fool's Gold artist Kid Kudi.

A-Trak's statement about Running Man:
"I don't really run. Yet when Nike asked me to do this track I was smitten. There was a musical challenge there, and I got excited. I've been producing mostly uptempo electro tracks as of late, but my background is hip-hop and I think you can hear it in my choice of sounds. I wanted this record to showcase my current style, but I also didn't want to stray away from hip-hop completely. That's why you find guest rap verses in the mix, plenty of chopped & screwed vocals, and a hefty dose of drums breaks that are surely more block party than Ibiza."

After making some tough decisions, A-Trak receives a print-out of his masterpiece: the Running Man Dunk.

The inspiration behind the Running Man Dunk was the artwork for A-Trak's debut album Running Man: Nike+ Original Run. A-Trak, Dust La Rock and Kesh agreed to base the shoe on the album’s white, blue and yellow color scheme, incorporating additional elements wherever possible. Also lifted from the album was the A-Man logo, which was lasered on to the shoe as a finishing touch.
